About us
The African Center for Coordination and Research in Cybersecurity (ACCRC) is a regional hub which aims to bolster cyber resilience across Africa by enabling coordinated efforts and formal mechanisms for cybersecurity regional cooperation.
The mission of ACCRC is to strengthen cyber resilience in Africa by facilitating regional cooperation in cybersecurity and coordinating the development, promotion and implementation of regional cybersecurity solutions, best practices and cyber capacity building initiatives for Africa.
History
In March 2022, the Republic of Togo, in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), co-hosted the First African Cybersecurity Summit in Lomé, Togo. This summit brought together leaders from government, the private sector, and civil society to tackle Africa’s cybersecurity challenges. During the summit, Member States endorsed the “Lomé Declaration” on Cybersecurity and the Fight Against Cybercrime,” committing to adopt the African Union Convention for Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection “Malabo Convention.”
In August 2022, the Republic of Togo and UNECA, in a bid to operationalise the Lomé Declaration, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish an African cybersecurity centre Lomé, Togo that will work with African States to promote cybersecurity in the region. This saw to the birthing of ACCRC.

Initiatives & Programs
As part of its supports for ACCRC, the World Bank Group has engaged a consortium comprised of KPMG and GFCE to provide technical assistance across various areas to support the establishment of this regional hub.
Events
We will be hosting stakeholder consultation sessions on the margins of these events to gather additional inputs from key stakeholders for, among others, finalising the scope of service of ACCRC.

The establishment of this world-class cybersecurity coordination centre is driven by strategic partnerships between the Government of Togo, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the World Bank and Other partners involved in the ACCRC establishment.
